Why You Should Back Up Your 12-Word Recovery Phrase

Your 12-word recovery phrase is the only way to restore access to your Bitcoin wallet if you lose your device or switch to a new one. Without it, your funds cannot be recovered.

Most important information

  • Anyone with access to your 12-word recovery phrase can control your Bitcoin. Keep it safe!

  • Never store your phrase digitally. Do not take screenshots or save it in cloud storage.

  • We cannot recover your wallet if you lose your recovery phrase. You are in full control of your Bitcoin.

To backup your 12-word-recovery phrase, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Relai app and tap 'Profile' in the navigation bar.

  2. Select 'Your recovery phrase' and confirm with your PIN or Touch ID / Face ID if enabled.

  3. Read the instructions carefully.

  4. Write down the 12-word recovery phrase on acid-resistant paper or a secure backup method (see below).

  5. Enter your 12-word recovery phrase to confirm.

⚠️ Important: Your recovery phrase will not be saved in your phone backups (e.g., iCloud or Google Drive).

Best & Worst Ways to Store Your Recovery Phrase

✅ Safe & Recommended Storage Options

CryptoTag LOKI – Relai Edition – A premium titanium backup for your recovery phrase. Fireproof & waterproof. Check it out here: CryptoTag LOKI – Relai Edition

Acid-resistant paper – More durable than regular paper, prevents degradation.

Metal backup plates – Fireproof, waterproof, and resistant to physical damage.

Engraved or stamped metal plates – Secure, long-lasting alternative to written backups.

Physical safe or secure location – Store in a location only you (or trusted individuals) can access.

❌ Do NOT Store Your Phrase Like This

No digital storage! Never take a screenshot or save it in notes, emails, or cloud storage.

Avoid printing it – Some printers store copies or send data to online services.

Do not share it with anyone – If someone else has it, they can access your bitcoin.

No online password managers – These can be hacked or compromised.

For extra security, we strongly recommend keeping more than one backup in different secure offline locations. Ideally, store one copy in a fireproof safe at home and another in a trusted secure location.

Your 12-word recovery phrase = your bitcoin. If you lose it, you lose access to your funds forever. Keep it safe, offline, and secure.
