Steps to Delete Your Account in the Relai App
Open the Relai app.
Go to Profile → Settings → Delete Account.
You will see a confirmation screen with two checkboxes:
Checkbox 1: Confirms that you understand that if you haven’t backed up your 12-word recovery phrase, you will permanently lose access to your bitcoin.
Checkbox 2: Confirms that once the account is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
After checking both boxes, you can proceed to delete your account.
You will have two button options:
Delete Account - This deletes your Relai account.
See Your Recovery Phrase - Allows you to view your 12-word recovery phrase before account deletion (important if you want to keep access to your wallet and bitcoin).
Email Confirmation:
After completing the account deletion process, you will receive a confirmation email confirming that your account has been successfully deleted. If you do not receive this email shortly, please check your spam folder or reach out to our support team at [email protected].
Before deleting your account, make sure to securely save your 12-word recovery phrase. This is the only way to recover your self-custodial Bitcoin wallet. We recommend storing it offline on acid-resistant paper or a metal plate — never digitally as a screenshot or in a digital note.
What happens to your data when you delete your account?
Case 1: If You Have Never Made a Trade (Buy or Sell) with Relai
If you have never placed a buy or sell order, your account data will be fully deleted. This includes:
Your account data
Your account login data
All connected information, including email address
After deleting your account, you can sign up again later using the same email address, as long as you have not previously made any trades, if you choose to come back to Relai.
Case 2: If you have made at least one trade (buy or sell) with Relai
If you have completed at least one trade, we are required by law to retain certain data for a minimum of 5 to 10 years, depending on the jurisdiction. This is required to comply with financial regulations, including anti-money laundering (AML) laws, and overrides the GDPR “right to be forgotten” (Article 17(3) of the GDPR). In this case:
We will retain your transaction history as required by financial regulations.
Your account data will be marked as “deleted”.
You will not be able to sign up again with the same email address in the future.
If you attempt to register again, you will receive an error message and need to contact our support team for manual reactivation.
Important Notes Before You Delete Your Account
Your 12-word recovery phrase is the only way to regain access to your Bitcoin Wallet if you delete your account. Make sure to store it securely offline before proceeding, as your bitcoin will be permanently lost without it.
If you delete your account, it cannot be restored, and you may need to go through a manual verification process if you attempt to register again.
