ID Document Requirements
To complete your verification, you must provide one of the following government-issued identification documents:
Accepted ID Documents:
National identity card (must include MRZ – machine-readable zone)
Passport (must include MRZ – machine-readable zone)
Not Accepted ID Documents:
Driver’s licenses
Residence permits
Temporary ID documents (e.g., provisional identity cards)
Only national identity cards and passports with an MRZ (machine-readable zone) can be used. The MRZ is the area with lines of numbers and letters at the bottom of the document.
Important Scanning Tips
Scan the back side first: Always start by scanning the back side of your ID, then the front side, especially the side with the MRZ (Machine Readable Zone).
Hold steady: Keep your phone steady and ensure all four corners of the document are visible during the scan.
Use good lighting: Make sure you’re in a well-lit area to capture the MRZ clearly.
NFC Chip Information (If Your ID Has One)
Your ID document does not necessarily need to have an NFC chip to be used for verification in the Relai app. However, if it does have an NFC chip, you can usually identify this by the following symbol:
If your ID document has this symbol, it means it contains an NFC chip. To use it for verification:
Hold the document against the NFC scanner of your smartphone.
On most smartphones, this is located on the back, near the center or close to the camera.
What to Do If Your ID Does Not Have an NFC Chip
If your ID document does not have an NFC chip, you can still proceed with the verification process.
After the second scan attempt, a pop-up message will appear. Simply click “Skip” to continue.
If Your NFC Chip Is Not Recognized
If you receive a pop-up message saying that the NFC chip in your ID document is too old to be read by the app, please click “Try anyway” to proceed.
