With the latest app update, Relai introduces a new, secure, and user-friendly login method: Keyless. You can activate Keyless now to prepare for the new login method. Logging in with Keyless will be available starting in April 2025.
What is Keyless?
Keyless is an advanced authentication system that verifies your identity using your device, biometric data, and a liveness check. This ensures that only you can access your Relai app.
Keyless does not replace your 12-word recovery phrase. Your recovery phrase remains essential to restore your Bitcoin wallet.
Keyless is used exclusively for secure login to the Relai app and can be compared to multi-factor authentication (MFA). While traditional MFA methods often use a combination of passwords and a second factor like SMS or an authenticator app, Keyless relies on secure device binding and biometric verification. This eliminates the need to manually enter passwords or one-time codes while maintaining a high level of security.
How do I activate Keyless in the Relai app?
After updating to the latest version of the Relai app, you will see a banner on the homepage of the app.
To activate Keyless, follow these steps:
Tap on the banner to start the setup.
Scan your face for biometric verification.
Set a new 6-digit PIN code, which will serve as an alternative login method if a face scan is not possible.
Confirm the setup – and you’re done.
What are the security benefits of Keyless?
Keyless enhances security and user experience by replacing traditional login methods.
✅ Device binding → Your login is linked to your device, preventing unauthorized access.
✅ Biometric verification → Confirms your identity through face scan.
✅ Liveness check → Ensures you are physically present and prevents attacks using photos or videos.
✅ No passwords required → Since you don’t have to enter passwords or codes, attackers cannot intercept your credentials.
✅ Maximum privacy → Your biometric data remains stored on your device and is not shared with Relai or third parties.
Can I log in with Keyless now?
Currently, you can activate Keyless in the Relai app, but the actual login functionality with Keyless will only be available starting in April 2025. We recommend activating it now to ensure a smooth transition when it becomes mandatory.
Once active, logging in with a face scan will require good lighting conditions and an unobstructed face (no caps, glasses, or face coverings). If a face scan is not possible, you can use your 6-digit PIN code instead.
What login methods will be available with Keyless?
Logging in with Keyless will only be possible from April 2025 onward. Once this feature is enabled, you can log in using the following methods:
Face scan (Keyless Face Scan) – Fast & secure
6-digit Keyless PIN code – As a fallback if a face scan is not possible
What happens if I lose my device?
If you lose your smartphone, you can restore your wallet with the following steps:
Install the Relai app on a new device.
Confirm your email address.
Authenticate your account with Face ID (Keyless).
Enter your 12-word recovery phrase to restore your wallet.
💡 Without your 12-word recovery phrase, you cannot restore your Bitcoin wallet! Make sure to store it securely and offline on acid-resistant paper or a metal plate.
